Ronald Reagan Tried to Kill America
75Here's the Clown
The Great Communicator . . . er . . . Lie
These days, Ronald Reagan has been deified into a heroic figure remembered for his famous demand of Gorbachev to "Tear down this wall!" This was an entertaining and invigorating moment for the former actor, and acting president. Indeed the demand did prove successful, as the Berlin Wall crumbled in 1989. However, as lovable as his personality may have been, let us be clear that this man's greatness is nothing more than a myth. Truth be told, were if not for the debacle that was George W. Bush, Reagan would be a front runner for the title of Worst President of All Time.
You see, although he had a way of seeming as likable as everyone's favorite grandfather, and he managed to engineer an economic boom - which we now know was completely artificial and counterproductive - Ronnie was a plague on this great country. Ronald McReagan was nothing more than an elitist bent on enriching those in power, with even more power, at the expense of the working and middle-classes.
Reagan Didn't Care about America's Backbone
McRonnie's idea of "trickle-down economics was a joke." I don't know what country he thought he was living in, but in the country I know, when the rich get richer they don't funnel increased profits down to the poor. No, the greedy bastards just look for more ways to get richer. It's not a coincidence that when the rich get richer, the poor get even poorer, and the middle class gets even smaller.
If you are like the majority of Americans, you are still waiting for that wealth of the 80's to trickle down to you. Additionally, while Reagan was content to continue sinking money into his Star Wars Program, and other frauds of the military industrial complex (yeah, that thing Eisenhower warned us about), he thought it would be good for the country to cut Medicaid, food stamps, federal education programs, and the EPA - not to mention his purging of many disabled people from Social Security and Disability. So, if you are ever harassed by an off-kilter Veteran spanging for a buck, thank Ronald for putting these people on the street.
Hell, I am sure that Flint Michigan regularly enjoyed the government assistance that was destroyed on Reagan's watch.
Good Actor
Foreign Policy - Blood and Deception
Beginning with paying off Iran to hold hostages until after he was sworn in - so he, not Jimmy Carter who did all the work would get credit, Reagan showed himself to be a cheat and a liar. This incident, known as the "October Surprise," was investigated but the evidence was said to be "inconclusive." I think the record of U.S. arms landing in Iran - and the former president of Iran, Bani-Sadr confirming that Reagan made this deal is evidence enough for me and anyone else with common sense.
For eight long years, the horrors continued. The U's' invaded Grenada, gave militant Mujihadeen forces in Afghanistan (yes, that Afghanistan) weapons and aid, bombed Libya, and violated international law (determined by the world court) in supplying covert arms to Iran in support of the Contras (a rebel terrorist group) efforts to take control of Nicaragua. These policies were the aggressive and imperialistic moves of a warmongering zealot. It is no surprise - that with all he did to contribute to the deaths of so many people around the world - his policies inspired those affected to breed hatred against America.
Throw in his partnerships with Middle-East foreign oil, and his cutting of as much as 80% of Jimmy Carter's renewable energy programs, and we see why we have become so dependent on foreign oil. This is what led to Bin Laden's rise in power. This man - and his overwhelming deficits - dug us into such a deep hole that we continue to dig out of it. It is a shame that George Herbert Walker Bush gets wrongly lumped in with Reagan - for his policies were much different.
Perhaps it is no coincidence that reagan suffered terribly from Alzheimer's disease before he passed. While I don't wish this fate on anyone - good or evil - it must have been easier for this clown to live with himself not being able to remember all of the evil he committed.

OMG - someone who will actually claim they did not like RR? Personally, I like the trickle up theory. Pay the workers a fair and honest amount of money so that they can spend it, thus helping the economy.
